Introducing Emma’s First Edition Club! Another carefully curated monthly book club offering, launching this October — and available for pre-order now.

Almost a decade ago, when we were thinking about opening a bookstore, Ann Patchett said DO IT. Last month, Ann asked me why I didn't have a proper first editions club, when we have so many other subscriptions. As history has proven, I am incapable of saying no to Ann, because she is always right. And so! Welcome to Emma's First Edition Club, a monthly subscription club starting in October, which you can pre-order now. (You won't be charged until September 25.)

Here are the details: the books will be both fiction and non-fiction. They will be books that I think you will want to keep on your shelves forever. They will be first editions, and if possible, they will be signed. There will be a letter from me telling you why I picked the book, and what I think is so special about it. Because I'm so excited about this new club, I'm even going to tell you what book I'm choosing first, and why...

I have long loved Lily King's books. When I had my first bookstore job, sixteen years ago this fall, Lily was about to publish her third novel, Father of the Rain. I've been reading her ever since, and her new book, Heart the Lover, had me absolutely spellbound from the first page. It's a love story, a love triangle, a friendship story, and it made me sob for the last thirty pages. You will want this book, and you will want a signed first edition, and that is why you should pre-order the first edition club now. Heart the Lover comes out in October, but I read it months ago, and I can tell you with great confidence that there are pages of that book that will never leave me.
