Blake Sondel Cole is a Bay Area native who's been in the restaurant industry for over 15 years, 25 if you count a childhood spent insisting on taking orders from the family dinner table. In that time she's worked at, helped open, and managed several restaurants and bars in Oakland and San Francisco. Her most recent endeavor, Friends and Family, is a cocktail bar that serves subtle variations on cocktail classics with an ever-evolving food menu. For Cole, Friends and Family is a dream that's been a long time in the making. In just three years, that dream has not only turned into a reality, but they've been named one of the top 50 bars in North America, been a James Beard semi-finalist for their outstanding bar program, and been featured in Bon Appétit as part of Oakland Queer Food Capital. Friends and Family is all that and more: along with being queer and woman-owned, it's a queerly inclusive safe space that regularly hosts community events, pop-ups, and art openings. It is a special space that prides itself on being an uplifting and welcoming environment for staff and guests alike. In short, it's your new favorite cocktail bar, a place to meet a date, spot your friends, or even bring your mom.
