What Will's Drinking
Domaine du Bagnol Cassis Rose 2024
The Domaine du Bagnol Cassis Blanc from our June Field Trip was a hit for many of you, and I will freely admit to having dispatched a few bottles myself so far this summer. As delicious as the white wines are, it's rose that this idyllic seaside village is best know for. Domaine du Bagnol is fully organic and perfection at delivering a wine full of finesse with a hint of salty sea breeze and delicious red fruits. We anxiously await our small allocation of Bagnol Rose every summer and are delighted to offer it to our Field Trip members.
What Jami's Drinking
Catherine & Pierre Breton Grolleau
One of my standout wines from our recent visit to the Loire was one of the most unassuming. The Grolleau from the Breton family is a total sleeper hit. Made by the Breton's daughter France, it is refreshing to see the next generation of winemakers in Middle Loire continuing to grow the natural wine movement. The Grolleau is a perfect example of said movement- so alive, so fresh, with a just teensy bit of funk. This is party wine with soul. Chill it down and drink it with close friends.
What Hunter's Drinking
Domaine du Bouchot Pouilly-Fumé Caillottes
If you've asked me for white wine recommendations in the shop over the past few months, chances are high that I've recommended some expression of Sauvignon Blanc. Had you told me a couple of years ago that I'd be doling out SB recommendations, I'd have been shocked - I have never had love for this grape, but I guess this is who I am now. Back in May, we attended a trade show for Jon David Headrick Selections, a local wine importer and friend of the shop. It was there that I tasted every available cuveé from Claude Riffault (one of which was Jami's pick last month) alongside the wines from this producer, Domaine du Bouchot. It cracked some part of my palate wide open, primed to receive the good word of Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire. I have not turned back.  This wine comes from Pouilly-Fumé, just across the river from Sancerre. To me, a photo of this bottle would be found in the wine dictionary right next to the word "minerality" - it channels a sensory vision of rain-slick stone and subtle citrus fruit that is clear and profound.
